Shearwater is an 82-foot vintage 1920's schooner built at the height of "Roaring '20s" as the personal yacht of Charles E. Dunlap, a prominent New York City industrialist. Rangoon teak decks and mahogany paneled staterooms below are sure to impress even the seasoned yachtsmen.
Shearwater guests sail quietly past the Statue of Liberty, the bridges and historic sites of New York Harbor and the fantastic skyline while enjoying the tranquility and wind-powered elegance of our historic ocean cruiser. Depending on the winds and tides, the captain may sail up the Buttermilk Channel or out to the Verrazano Bridge spanning the ocean entrance to NY Harbor. Highlights include the following: Statue of Liberty - Get close up pictures of the statue in all her glory as an international symbol of freedom & democracy. The statue, also known as "Lady Liberty," has been a welcome to arriving immigrants, who could see the statue when they got close to arriving at their new home or destination. Brooklyn Bridge - One of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States, connecting the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Governors and Ellis Island - Where thousands of immigrants first entered the United States, including, perhaps your own ancestors. Today Ellis Island houses a museum reachable by ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey and from the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. Hudson River - A 315-mile river that flows from north to south through eastern New York State and forms the border between New York City and New Jersey at its mouth before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Battery Park - A 25-acre public park located at the Battery, the southern tip of the New York City borough of Manhattan, facing New York Harbor. The Battery is named for the artillery battery that was stationed there at various times by the Dutch and British in order to protect the harbor. Come sail on this unique tour!
