Tales of the City Hiking Tour

Tales of the City Walking Tour

Inspired by Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" book and TV series, this hike canvasses the stairways and hills of North Beach, Telegraph Hill, and Russian Hill. Our 4.5 mile/2.5 hour hiking and history tour will get your heart pumping as you explore Coit Tower, Lombard Street, plus multiple hidden alleys and parks that not even the neighbors know.

This is our shortest tour in distance, but with numerous stairways throughout the tour, you’ll get a great workout in a short time. Unlike some of our other tours, 99% of this tour takes place on city streets.

On our hike, you’ll learn the history of your Levis in Levis plaza, discover the most romantic spot in the city in hidden Jack Early Park, stroll the shaded blocks of Macondray Lane (the real Barbary lane from Tales of the City), and see where Marylin Monroe and Joe DiMaggio took their wedding photos in front of Washington Square Park’s Saint Peter and Paul Church.

Tour is moderately strenuous to strenuous, and includes views of the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the San Francisco Bay. This tour is easily accessible by public transportation and is suitable for people who can comfortably walk 5 miles.
